Joyful Birth Midwifery Services

Amy Ihrig

BA, ASM, CPM

I graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in Family Living in 1992.  I have been happily married for over  34  years and, together, we are raising and homeschooling five wonderful children.  I have since been professionally involved in birth work for 18  years as a certified birth doula, affiliated Bradley Method® childbirth educator, certified educator of infant massage, and a La Leche League leader.  I completed my midwifery education at the Midwives College of Utah in December 2016, where I trained with nine different, experienced midwives, some independent, like myself, and some in a few birthing centers, including a summer internship to Pennsylvania working with the Amish.  A blessed experience that I will forever cherish.  I received my certification from the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) in April 2017, and officially became a Certified Professional Midwife at that time.  I am excited to be accepting new home birth clients in Utah County, and elsewhere on a case-by-case basis.  I sincerely enjoy developing meaningful connections and offering individual attention to each of my clients.

I am also currently furthering my education to receive a Doctorate in Natural Health Studies with the New Eden School of Natural Health, so I can eventually work with the whole family beyond the newborn stage.

Ironically, I used to be very against homebirth until I had an accidental homebirth myself.  I truly believe it was the only way that the Lord could show me the path that He has called me to today, that of being a homebirth midwife myself.  Now I love homebirth, obviously, and I am so humbled to be a part of such a sacred and intimate family event.  I firmly believe that women were made to give birth and I trust the Divine process.    I highly value shared decision-making with my clients all along the way.  I have always supported natural birth, but now I believe that all healthy women should have the right to choose to give birth wherever they feel the safest.  It is my sincere hope that I can create a relationship of trust with each of my clients, so that they can feel safe and have the most joyful birth experience possible.  I moved to American Fork, in Utah County, in August 2018,  but I have attended over 200  births since beginning birth work as  a  doula  in  2006. I am looking forward to providing personalized, compassionate, intuitive care to you and your baby.
